rim of the canyons, the gorgeous Divisadero Barrancas

Copper Canyon
Itinerary
DAY 1
(No meals included)
Departure from Tucson, Arizona at 7:30 am from the Inn
Suites Hotel (475 N. Granada Avenue; long term parking
available for hotel guests) at 8:00 am from La Placita
Village (110 S. Church Avenue; long term parking garage
available). Continue to Green Valley. Departure from
Green Valley at 9 am (Green Valley Village parking lot
Esperanza blvd. and I-10 just behind the Texaco gas
station; no long term parking available).
Sun City West tour departs at 6 am from Recreation
Center parking lot.
Cross the border through Nogales; lunch in Santa Ana (on
own $6 to $8 U.S. dollars a la carte).
Check-in at San Carlos Marinaterra Hotel, at the San
Carlos Desert bay. Dinner (on own $8 to $14 U.S. dollars
a la carte Hotel Marinaterra restaurant).

DAY 2 (B & L)
After Breakfast (included) depart to El Fuerte, Northern
Sinaloa’s picturesque colonial city. It was founded in
1564 along the El Fuerte river by the Spanish conquer
Don Francisco de Ibarra. Lunch in Navojoa (included).
Check in at La Choza Hotel for a two night stay, a
family owned and operated lodge. Dinner (on own $6 to
$12 U.S. dollars a la carte Hotel La Choza Restaurant).

DAY 3
(B)
After Breakfast (included) be ready to experience the
plentiful and diverse bird life amid the verdant
tropical forest on a tranquil El Fuerte river floating
cruise. More than 60 species of birds are frequently
spotted from the boat as well as exotic flora. Commonly
spotted birds include Bare-throated Tiger Heron, Crested
Caracara, Gray Hawk, Rufous-bellied Chachalaca, Elegant
Quail, Squirrel Cuckoo, Black-throated Magpie Jay,
Elegant Trogan, Social Flycatcher, Mexican Parrolet, and
Russet-crowned Motmot .
After lunch, El Fuerte city walking tour.

DAY 4
(B-L-D)
After Breakfast (Included), at 7:30 am, transfer to the
train depot. We will board the train (CHEPE) to
Divisadero Barrancas for a spectacular and unforgettable
journey through the Tarahumara Indian Territory. The
railroad is an engineering marvel, incorporating 86
tunnels and 37 bridges. We will pass over the longest
(Agua Caliente Bridge 1,637 feet long) and the highest (Chinipas
bridge 335 feet above the ground and 1018.5 feet in
length) bridges in the Mexican railway system. Beautiful
views of the roadbed descending by means of curves and
loops. Indeed, this is why it has been called “the most
dramatic train ride in the northern hemisphere”.
Brown bag lunch (included).
We will arrive at Divisadero in the afternoon. It is a
natural lookout point that overlooks a tributary of the
Urique River in the Copper Canyon 4,135 feet down.
We will check into the beautiful Divisadero Barrancas
Hotel at the rim of the Copper Canyon where we will
enjoy spectacular views from the Hotel balcony.
Dinner included.
DAY 5
(B-L-D)
After
Breakfast (included), we will take a tour to “Piedra
Volada” (offers spectacular views where you can admire
the junction between the Copper, the Tarerecua and the
Urique Canyons).
We
will see a Tarahumara performance displaying their
ancient traditions. We will see
them dance and play their hand-made instruments.
They will be in their traditional costumes and play
“kick ball”.
After lunch at hotel (included), free afternoon.
Dinner at hotel (included).
Overnight at Divisadero Barrancas Hotel.
DAY 6
(B-L-D)
After
breakfast (included), check out of hotel and board our
motor coach. Pass through the town of Creel, once the
western terminus of the Chihuahua-Pacífico Railway. This
old lumber town, situated 7643 feet above sea level in
the Sierra Madre, maintains its rustic flavor.
We will then continue to Cuauhtémoc in the heart of
Mennonite Country where we will have a home-style lunch
(on own).
Later,
we will enjoy a wonderful dinner at La Cueva restaurant,
Spanish cuisine (included). Check in at Hotel La Huerta
Inn.
Overnight in Cuauhtémoc.

DAY 7
(B-L-D)
After
breakfast (included), departure to Casas Grandes.
Check in at Hotel Hacienda. Lunch included at the Hotel.
After lunch we will continue our way to Mata Ortiz,
world famous Pottery artisan’s village. Where we will
have a pottery making exhibition by Jorge Quintana, who
is one of the most talented and famous Mata Ortiz
artisans. During “shopping time” you can visit the shops
or the houses of the Mata Ortiz artisans.
Farewell Dinner in Casas Grandes at “La Finca de Don
Cruz” Restaurant (included).
Overnight in Casas Grandes.
DAY 8
(B & L)
After
breakfast (included), check out of our hotel
We
will take you back to the place where history was made
during the wild border days of the early 1900s where
Pancho Villa used to ride with his raiders.
Lunch in Palomas at a most colorful place:
The Pink Store (included) After lunch cross the border
into USA through Palomas – Columbus, New Mexico.
We
will be back at pick up point at approximately 6 pm
(Tucson) and 8 pm (Sun City West).
End of the journey.
